	After the 2023 editions, which featured collections and standalone compositions, the 2024 covers of de Tuinliefhebber take a new direction. Each issue now shows a scene from a vegetable garden, changing with the seasons.

In every scene, you’ll find visual elements that connect directly to the topics covered inside the magazine. From planting to harvesting, animals and insects, the covers reflect what’s happening in the garden, and in the issue.

	An absolute honour to work together with &#38;nbsp;Sacha Verheij on the artworks for her beautiful research and spoken word project “Wearing My Roots.”The EP and audio story take the listener on a journey through Sacha’s family history, her search for identity, and the act of bringing her Dutch-Moluccan-Surinamese roots from the shadows into the light.Through spoken word and intimate interviews with her family, Sacha weaves a deeply personal and historical narrative, adding underrepresented voices to the archive of Dutch colonial history.Here you can listen to the entire EP Wearing My Roots and read more about each individual track.

	Baby and child signs come from Dutch Sign Language and are used alongside speech to make words more visual and easier for young children to remember. Signing helps babies communicate from as early as six months old (long before they can talk) reducing frustration, strengthening connection, and supporting language development. It even boosts confidence and often helps children start speaking sooner.

For this project, I created the illustrations for the signing cards, designed to make learning fun and engaging for both parents and children. The themed sets include&#38;nbsp;farm animals, outdoor play, and food &#38;amp; drinks, allowing families to learn signs that match their everyday life and interests.

	Transforming spaces for little ones! Firma Fiep is giving child care locations a playful makeover blending warm wood, thoughtful colour palettes and my illustrations to create fun and inspiring environments. Whether as wallpaper, stickers or engraved details, they bring my designs to life in surprising ways.These characters were created for a children care location in Montfoort. They were used as printouts in picture frames for each different group.

	Transforming spaces for little ones! Firma Fiep is giving child care locations a playful makeover blending warm wood, thoughtful colour palettes and my illustrations to create fun and inspiring environments. Whether as wallpaper, stickers or engraved details, they bring my designs to life in surprising ways.These characters were created for children care location de Harlekijn. They were used as printouts in picture frames for each different group.

	Vinyl and merch design for the Utrecht based .multibeat. This instrumental trio knows how to seamlessly blend jazz, hiphop and R&#38;amp;B. This record is one with many collaboration, almost each track features an amazing artist which makes this album diverse and a lot of fun to listen to!

What started out as the artwork for the album turned out to be the base of the single artworks as well. Each single shows analogue pictures of Kanaleneiland (Channel Island), a neighbourghood in Utrecht.

	Plukatelier is the flower studio and nursery of Jennita. For her own line of flowerseeds she was looking for packaging with a colourful and vintage feel. Together we created these 20 packets, each with a floral pattern corresponding with the flowerseeds inside.

	De Tuinliefhebber appears four times a year. Each season a fresh magazine falls on the doormat of members of garden clubs that are connected to AVVN.

When I got asked to make the covers for the magazines this year, AVVN was especially drawn towards some collection based illustrations I made before. So for each season we would display scenes, animals, plants and places that are discussed in the magazine. I would then sketch out a composition and work on a final version&#38;nbsp;

	Weerd brings boogie, funk, disco, house and soulful grooves to Ekko Utrecht.

For their first edition I designed a logo and artwork. Combining clear type with the analogue feel of a paper collage.


	For me, starting an analogue collage takes some time. Getting the paper out, prepping pieces by gluing colours together before cutting them. And then the shifting and switching shapes around starts. After a while pieces seem to click together, but it’s not really something I can sketch out or think of beforehand. 
When the composition is well balanced and interesting I’ll glue everything together. 
Scanning at high resolution shows you small surprises like leftover glue, shadows of the slight difference in height between two pieces of paper. I like how these tiny things are a gift of working traditionally instead of making the compositions digitally.

When the collage is finished and scanned in I add the logo and type. In this case it was about keeping the placement of the text playful and dynamic but at the same time keeping the balance of the artwork intact.

The last part of the process is playing around with colour and different combinations.&#38;nbsp;
